Drilling and tapping machines are generally used to drill and thread holes in a surface. More specifically, a CNC drilling and tapping machine can be used to work at break neck speed to do operations that had once been done on manual mills or slower cnc vertical machining centers.

Drilling and Tapping machines usually have a 30 taper spindle and are far quicker with their rapid traverse and cutting feedrates than a standard vertical machining center. They are capable of lighter milling as well, but the emphasis is on fast and efficient work.
